Wentzville’s Tommy D’s Pizza to Close, Reopen as Captain D’s

Tommy D’s Pizza co-owner, Matt Olson, confirmed to 70 West Sentinel today that the pizza restaurant on Church Street in downtown Wentzville would be closing down, remodeling, and reopening as a Captain D’s seafood restaurant.

Olson said that the changeover could take place as soon as January of 2018.

“We had a lot of competition [as a pizza restaurant], and there was no seafood place in town,” Olson said. “We’re going to take over that market.”

Tommy D’s founder and co-owner, Tom Durst, was mentioned in an article published on the St. Louis Business Journal website today about the resurgence of Captain D’s restaurants nationwide. “Tom Durst of Tommy D’s, Inc. has signed an agreement to open a new restaurant in Wentzville, Missouri. Durst has over a decade of experience in the foodservice industry . . .”

The 48-year-old Captain D’s franchise has more than 500 locations nationwide. The only Captain D’s currently in St. Charles County is located on Veterans Memorial Parkway in St. Charles.

shitty decision…if he thought mediocre home brew pizza was a challenge, crappy chain seafood should really help restaurant reality set in…being great matters to consumers!

Terrible Idea. Switching to fish will seal the fate of this restaurant, it is doomed.

Really, really hate to hear this. This is one of my favorite places to eat in Wentzville. I eat there every week. Changing from the best Pizza place in Wentzville to a terrible fish chain.

This is fantastic news! I live and work in Wentzville, and I drive past this spot everyday. Always great to have another quick option to pickup on the way home for the family. At work, we have mentioned countless times how it would be great if we had a fish place for lunch like Long John Silvers or Captain D’s. Not sure why the other negative comments about a chain not making it. Wentzville is a crowded pizza market with so many less expensive and better tasting pizza options. I believe another chain would work well in that spot, just Look at DQ next door. Their parking lot is consistently packed while Tommy D’s is always empty. Not a single fish place in the area to compete with. So glad to hear Tommy is becoming a Captain!
