This Friday, June 5, is the first of Wentzville’s two popular Rod Runs on Pearce Boulevard.
For $10, car owner/enthusiasts can cruise up and down Pearce Boulevard from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. to the cheers of an appreciative crowd who bring their lawn chairs, coolers and cameras and enjoy the show.
Wentzville’s signature car cruise events benefit the Missouri D.A.R.E. program. Last year’s events raised a total of $6,760.
This history of these events goes back to the early 1980s, said Amanda Harris of event sponsor Harris Automotive and Tire. Some residents may remember the Mid America Raceway (MAR) racetrack, which was located northwest of Wentzville off of North Point Prairie Road. The track hosted a nostalgia drag weekend, and participants would come into Wentzville on Friday nights to cruise, Harris said. This continued until the late 90s when it became an organized event, sponsored by Harris Automotive and Tire, the City of Wentzville, the Wentzville Missouri Police Department and the Wentzville Downtown Business Association.
The second Rod Run will be on August 7.
Residents should note that Pearce Boulevard will be closed between City Hall and Luetkenhaus Boulevard during the events.
