Wentzville Woman Killed in Crash with Suspected Drunk Driver near Joplin

A 32-year-old woman from Wentzville was killed in a crossover crash in Newton County in the early-morning hours of July 4. Two people from Neosho, Missouri were also killed in the crash.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Ronni J. Ducommun, 32, was driving a 2015 Hyundai Elantra eastbound on Route V south of Joplin at 1:20 a.m. on July 4.

A 1995 Isuzu Rodeo driven by McKay M. Harris, 17, of Neosho, was westbound Route V. The Isuzu crossed the center line and struck the Hyundai head-on.

Ronni Ducommun was pronounced dead at the scene, as was a female passenger, Janet M. Ducommun, 67, of Neosho.

An 18-year-old male passenger in the Isuzu, Alex M. Ashlin of Neosho, was also pronounced dead at the scene.

Harris sustained serious injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital in Joplin. Neither Harris nor Ashlin were wearing seat belts.

According to online records, Harris was arrested later that morning for felony driving while intoxicated (death of two or more people), careless and imprudent driving, no insurance, displaying another person’s license plate, minor in possession, and no seat belt.
