A 17-year-old from Wentzville sustained serious injuries Wednesday morning when his car left the roadway and struck a tree.
Christapher J. Westfall was northbound on Highway 61 south of John Creech Road at 7:50 a.m. in a 2003 Buick Century.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Westfall’s car left the right side of the road and hit the bridge rail. He then overcorrected and the car went down an embankment and hit a tree.
The Wentzville Fire Protection District posted several photos from the scene. “Crews from Wentzville, Lincoln County, Wright City, Lake St. Louis, St. Charles County Ambulance, Lincoln County Ambulance and ARCH medical helicopter worked for over 2 hours, to stabilize and extricate one patient that was heavily pinned in the vehicle,” the post stated. “The passenger compartment sustained heavy intrusion from a tree, making access difficult. The patient was pinned inside the vehicle between the tree and car seats.”
Westfall was airlifted to Mercy Hospital. He was wearing a safety device at the time of the crash.
