A 28-year-old Wentzville man sustained serious injuries Friday night in a crash with two unoccupied police SUVs on Interstate 70.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Dustin A. Sentman was westbound on Interstate 70 west of Woodlawn Avenue in a 2005 Chevy Silverado at 10:15 p.m.
Two unoccupied police vehicles, a 2016 Ford Explorer and a 2012 Chevy Tahoe, were stopped in the left lane.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol confirmed that one of the vehicles was a St. Charles County Police vehicle, and the other was an O’Fallon police vehicle. They were parked in the left lane with emergency lights on because of a previous accident.
The pickup hit the rear of one of them, which was then pushed into the other.
Sentman, who had not be wearing a safety belt, sustained serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to SSM St. Joseph Hospital – St. Charles.
According to MSHP arrest reports, Sentman was arrested for driving while intoxicated, possession of marijuana, and and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The O’Fallon Police Department posted pictures of the wrecked SUV on their Facebook page Saturday morning, with this note: “Last night we were fortunate not to lose of our officers. While assisting the St. Charles County Police on a traffic stop on Interstate 70 a suspected drunk driver slammed into the back of one of our patrol cars. The impact forced our car into the county patrol car. Thankfully neither officer was injured as both were out of their cars. This is another example of the dangers law enforcement faces everyday and why we look for impaired drivers.”
