Weigh Anchor! Pirates, Mermaids, and Cardboard Boats Invade Alligator’s Creek

Alligator’s Creek Aquatic Center has two fun events planned for the weekend of July 22 – 23.

Mermaids and Mates – Saturday, July 22

Ahoy all ye mermaids and pirates ages 3-6, join in the fun of pirate-themed games and prizes, treasure hunting, craft-making, swimming and, at the end of the program, pizza!

Mermaids and Mates will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 22, at Alligator’s Creek Aquatic Center, 403 Civic Park Drive in O’Fallon’s Civic Park. The cost is $12 for O’Fallon residents and $15 for non-residents. Be sure to register for Mermaids and Mates (program 110109-A) no later than Friday, July 14. It’s easy to register for O’Fallon’s Parks and Recreation programs online with your email or in person at the Renaud Spirit Center, 2650 Tri Sports Circle (63368), or the Parks and Recreation Administration Office, 400 Civic Park Drive (63366). Administration Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays.  

 Shipwrecked Pirates Day and the Cardboard Boat Race

Whether you sink or float, you’ll have fun and a chance to win a prize, too, at the annual Cardboard Boat Race at Alligator’s Creek Aquatic Center. 403 Civic Park Drive in O’Fallon’s Civic Park. The race will be held on Sunday, July 23, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

To enter, make a cardboard-and-duct-tape vessel for a two-person crew. All ages are encouraged to team up for the race, including parents and kids. You don’t have to out-paddle the competition to win a prize. Besides the “Fastest Boat,” awards will be presented for the “Best-Decorated Boat” and the “Titanic Award.” 

The entry fee is $12 for O’Fallon residents and $15 for non-residents. But hurry, the deadline to enter is Wednesday, July 19. For more information or to register for the race, call 636-272-1626 or 636-474-8130.

The Cardboard Boat Race is a highlight of “Shipwrecked Pirates Day” at the pool, with nautical and pirate-themed games and prizes from noon to 7 p.m. at no extra charge. Daily admission is $4 for children (3-18) and seniors (55+), and $5 for ages 19-54. Non-resident admission is $6 and $7. Passholders can get in free with their pool pass. Concessions are available for purchase at the pool.
