Two From O’Fallon Injured in Crash with Wrong-Way Driver in St. Charles

Two people from O’Fallon were sustained minor injuries in a wrong-way driver crash in St. Charles that brought traffic to a standstill Sunday night.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2009 Nissan Altima driven by Jaffer Weldehariat Andemichale, 33, of St. Louis, was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Interstate 70 east of First Capitol Drive at 9:45 p.m.

Andemichale attempted to make a U-turn when he realized he was going the wrong way, and turned into the path of a 2003 Oldsmobile Silhouette driven by 62-year-old Travis L. Lewis of O’Fallon.

Lewis and a passenger, Elaine S. Lewis, 43, of O’Fallon, sustained minor injuries and were taken to SSM St. Joseph-St. Charles by EMS. Andemichale also sustained minor injuries and was transported to SSM St. Joseph-St.Charles. All were wearing seat belts.

MSHP arrest reports indicate that Andemichale was charged with felony assault and misdemeanor driving while intoxicated.
