Troy man charged with motor vehicle theft in O’Fallon after unsuccessful first attempt

A 20-year-old from Troy has been arrested and charged with stealing a car at an O’Fallon gas station, after his first attempt just a short distance away failed.

According to police, Travis Webb attempted to steal a car on the parking lot of a QuikTrip at 4750 Highway K at approximately 5:30 a.m. Friday, May 4. He told the victim that he had a firearm, but the attempt was unsuccessful and the victim was not injured.

Webb then went to Mobil on the Run at 4501 Highway K on foot (about 2/10 of a mile north of the first incident), where police say he stole a Chevy Impala that had been left running on the parking lot.

The suspect was stopped by Lake Saint Louis police on Interstate 64 east of Highway 364 and taken into custody by O’Fallon police without incident.

No firearm was found.

Webb was charged by the county prosecutor’s office with first degree attempted robbery in the first incident and stealing – motor vehicle in the second incident. Both charges are felonies. Bond was set at $25,000, 10 percent not authorized.
