Today Show Tells Story of Lake Saint Louis Teen’s Rescue and Recovery

NBC’s The Today Show aired a story Saturday morning about a local teen’s rescue from an icy Lake Sainte Louise and his amazing recovery from his ordeal.

14-year-old John Smith and two friends fell through the ice January 19. One boy swam to shore and another was quickly rescued by first responders, but John was submerged in the freezing water for at least 15 minutes.

The Today Show’s Elizabeth Murray talked to staffers at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in St. Louis who treated Smith and called his recovery “miraculous.”
