St. Paul Man Injured in Crash on I-70; Highway Shuts Down

A 25-year-old man from St. Paul sustained moderate injuries after a crash on Interstate 70 that shut down the highway Tuesday afternoon.

Matthew W. Hays was eastbound on I-70 just west of I-64 at 12:41 p.m. in a 1999 Ford Explorer. Hays struck the left rear of a 2002 Cadillac Escalade that was also eastbound.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Hays went off the left-hand side of the road and struck a concrete barrier and a light pole before overturning.

For a time, all eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 were shut down due to the accident.

Hays, who was not wearing a seat belt, sustained moderate injuries and was transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital.

The other driver, a 44-year-old woman from Foristell, was not injured.
