According to court documents, a Missouri State Highway Patrol officer observed Evans, who was driving a Dodge Avenger, speeding (80 to 85 mph in a 60 mph zone) on Interstate 64. Evans failed to slow for traffic, and struck the back of Yaeger’s SUV, which overturned.

Pamela Yaeger died at the scene. 36-year-old Melissa Yaeger sustained serious injuries and is currently listed in satisfactory condition at Mercy Hospital.

Evans was not injured.

At the scene, the trooper smelled alcohol, and noted that Evans’ speech was slurred and incoherent. He said that Evans admitted to drinking but refused to submit a blood sample. Results of a court-ordered test are pending.

A baggie of marijuana and empty prescription bill bottles that were not in Evans’ name were found in Evans’ vehicle.

Bond was set at $100,000, 10 percent not authorized.
