Mexican Food

The St. Charles County Department of Public Health monitors more than 1,300 food service providers in St. Charles County. (The City of St. Peters conducts its own inspections.) Routine inspections are conducted by specialists with the department for proper food safety procedures and are scored by deducting points from a starting score of 100.

The following acronyms are used in violation information: PHF (Potentially Hazardous Food), TCS (Time/Temperature Control for Safety), FCS (Food-contact Surface), NFC (Non-food contact surface), RTE (Read to Eat).

  • Village Cafe, 6127 Ronald Reagan Drive -s core 91 (“Observed that TCS food is properly dated but stored in refrigerator more than 7 days; Torn or broken door seals, hinges etc. (poorly maintained or in disrepair) walk in cooler; Dirty NFCsGrills on fans in Kitchen; Talked about proper food service certifications, Plumbing maintenance ,proper reheating of food. “)

  • La Carreta Mexican Grocery Story, 316 O’Fallon Plaza – score 93 (“Ready to eat PHFs not dated 5(pnt); Observed food in many of the reach-in coolers was not dated with the day of preparation or 7 days later, which is the day the food must be discarded; the owner dated all items that were prepared today and discarded the other items that had not been dated; Observed the microwave was dirty with food residue; the microwave should be cleaned frequently to reduce the build-up of residue”)
  • China Buffet & Grill, 373 Winding Woods Drive – score 86 (“Raw meats above RTE food 5(pnt); Observed raw fish was stored above ready-to-eat foods in one of the reach-in coolers; owner reorganized the cooler so that the raw fish is stored on the bottom, below the RTE foods; Improper thawing 2(pnt); Observed raw shrimp was thawed in cold water; the food is allowed to be submerged in water but the water must be running and the temperature of the food can not get below 41 degrees Fahrenheit; Observed raw shrimp was being thawed in the sanitizer compartment of the 3-compartment sink; a 3-compartment sink should only be used for washing, rinsing, and sanitizing utensils and equipment; no food should rinsed or thawed in the 3-compartment sink; Vent hood dirty 2(pnt); Observed the hoods above the stoves in the kitchen were covered in grease; the grease is beginning to drip down the back wall as well; the hoods need to be cleaned as soon as possible to remove the build-up of grease”)

  • Thai Kitchen, 8632 Mexico Road – score 80 (“Observed multiple employee drinks that were not in a closed beverage container; all drinks must be closed or have a lid; Ready to eat PHFs not dated 5(pnt); Observed food in the walk-in cooler that was not dated with the day of preparation or 7 days following, which is when the food must be discarded; ready-to-eat foods must always be dated once prepared and put into the cooler, unless the food is to be served within 24 hours; Unlabeled spray bottle 5(pnt); Observed two spray bottles under the front sink that were not labeled with the chemical inside; all spray bottles must be labeled with what chemical they are holding; Packaged foods in undrained ice 2(pnt); Observed two food items were stored in the undrained ice that is used for customer drinks; no items are allowed to sit in that ice other than the ice scoop; Observed one container of food was stored on the floor in the walk-in freezer; all food items must be stored at least 6 inches off of the floor; Dirty NFCs 2(pnt); Observed the can opener was dirty with food residue; can opener should be cleaned often to eliminate the residue; Observed the fan guards in the walk-in cooler were dusty and need to be cleaned; Observed the hoods above the stoves in the establishment were greasy, with one not properly installed; the hoods should be cleaned as soon as possible and the one hood should be reinstalled to fit correctly; Observed the floors and walls in between and behind the equipment in the kitchen contains food residue, debris, dirt, grease, etc.; equipment should be pulled away from the walls frequently to clean and remove the residue, debris, etc.; Coats, purses and other personal items stored improperly 2(pnt); Observed employees personal items, such as purses and phones, were sitting throughout the kitchen of the establishment, with purses laying on top of bags of food and phones sitting on top of plates; personal items should be stored in a separate, designated area only for those items; Discussed Display inspection report for public to view, Sugar scoop, Fix paper towel holder”)

  • Petro Mart, 2140 West Terra Lane – score 96 (“Improper use of warewashing sinks 2(pnt); Observed a part of the mop holder/drainer was sitting in the 3-compartment sink; the sink should only be used for washing, rinsing, and sanitizing utensils and equipment; Dirty NFCs 2(pnt); Observed the area under the coffee dispensers, that are currently holding lids, is dirty with debris; area needs to be cleaned often to reduce the debris build-up; Observed the ice chutes for the fountain soda station are dirty with a black residue; the ice chutes should be cleaned often to eliminate the black residue and not contaminate the ice”)
  • Thai Jasmine Restaurant, 2019 Highway K – score 96 (“Leaking plumbing or plumbing in disrepair 5, 2(pnt); Observed a pipe in the restroom was currently leaking; the pipe needs to be replaced so there is no leaking taking place; the owner has been in contact with the landlord to fix the issue; Observed the floors underneath the equipment in the kitchen area were dirty with food residue, grease, etc.; the equipment should be pulled away from the wall in order to clean the floors; the floors should be cleaned often to reduce the build-up of residue; Observed a few of the ceiling tiles were damaged due to a water leak from the roof; the roof has been replaced and water no longer leaks, but the ceiling tiles must be replaced”)
