The next few weeks will be our busiest time of the year at the Salvation Army. Bell ringing, toy drives, non-perishable food drives, stacking and sorting, and visits from Santa all equal a happy Christmas and holiday season for our neighbors.
But we need your help to make all that happen.
During Christmas 2015, with your help, we were privileged to serve 180 families and 125 seniors with Christmas cheer. That equals 1817 toys! Four hundred people attended our community Christmas dinner which included visits with Santa Claus, face painting, a balloon artist and crafts for the kids.
The Salvation Army Christmas kettles throughout Western St. Charles County raised $110, 000 for The Salvation Army O’Fallon services and programs. This one fundraising effort represents over 14 percent of our annual operating budget. We were assisted in our kettle efforts by 160 individual volunteers and volunteer groups who rang the bell for a total of 1750 hours.
This year we must raise $104,000 with four less bell ringing locations. We need your help.
All of our Christmas efforts are made possible because of volunteers who adopt families for Christmas, organize food and toy drives, set up Toy Town, work as Toy Town shoppers, help collect food during Wehrenberg’s Can Film Festival, and much more.
We rely on volunteers throughout the year to operate the food pantry. Families choose their groceries, dairy, fresh vegetables and fruit, meat, canned goods, and bread. Approximately 1200 persons, ranging in family size from one person to nine, shop each per month.
Our 32-bed emergency homeless shelter is always full. Due to our limited space, we do not meet the needs of our St Charles neighbors who find themselves without shelter.
Volunteer groups complete various projects on our property, painting rooms at our family shelter and maintaining the grounds around the facility. Groups and individuals in the community organize food and funding drives to benefit Salvation Army programs and services.
All the money raised through the kettles stays in western St Charles County.
We provide services and meet the needs of our neighbors without discrimination or prejudice. We can’t do it alone. We need your help!
