The Wentzville School District Board of Education has approved the hiring of Laura Parn as principal of Duello Elementary School and David Bates as principal of Prairie View Elementary for the 2017-2018 school year.
Parn, who is currently serving as an assistant principal at Boone Trail Elementary, replaces Dr. Melvin Bishop who has been named principal of the new school being built on Highway Z. Bates is currently serving as an assistant principal in the Rockwood School District and will be replacing Matt Schulte who has been named principal of the new school being built on West Meyer Road.
This marks Parn’s 14th year in education. Prior to coming to the WSD originally in 2011, she was a teacher and instructional coach in Lincoln, Nebraska. Parn served as a 4th and 5th grade teacher at Peine Ridge Elementary and an assistant principal at Green Tree Elementary before taking a position in the St. Charles School District in 2015. Parn was named a Japan Fulbright Memorial Fund teacher in 2007, and based on her classroom work at Peine Ridge, she received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching in 2012. She holds a Masters in School Administration from Lindenwood University, a Masters in Teaching, Learning and Teacher Education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Greenville College.
“I am honored to be selected as the next principal for Duello Elementary School and feel quite fortunate to have the opportunity to serve the students, staff, and families of the Duello community,” said Parn. “I am eager and excited to work together to ensure a successful K-6 transition!” Parn resides with her husband Steve and 7-year old twins, Emma and Logan, in Foristell.
Bates is also making a return to the WSD. He started his teaching career at Crossroads Elementary in 2004 before taking a position in 2013 as an assistant principal at Bowles Elementary in the Rockwood School District. Bates has an Educational Specialist in Administration and a Masters in Educational Administration from William Woods University, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Lindenwood University.
“I am extremely excited to accept the position as Principal at Prairie View Elementary,” said Bates. “I feel truly humbled for the chance to work with such a dynamic staff and school. It is clear that Prairie View is a place that values positive relationships between all members of the school community and I look forward to meeting everyone and sharing a journey that puts our students and their learning at the center of everything we do.” Bates and his wife Jamie live with their two girls, Hailey and Lacey in O’Fallon, MO.
Parn and Bates officially take over as principal at their respective schools on July 1, 2017.
