Police Pursuit Following Car Theft in Wentzville Ends with Crash, Gunshot

According to a Wentzville Police Department press release, three suspects stole a SUV at gunpoint in Wentzville early Saturday morning. The ensuing police pursuit ended in west St. Louis County with a crash and one of the suspects wounded.

Wentzville police officers patrolling the Walmart parking lot at 12:41 a.m. were flagged down by a man and a woman, who said that their Chevrolet Tahoe had been stolen at gunpoint by three male suspects.

Police located the vehicle on eastbound Interstate 70 but the suspects refused to stop.

Stop sticks placed by the Missouri State Highway Patrol did not affect the suspects in the stolen SUV, but were struck by the two Wentzville police vehicles that were in pursuit.

Other agencies pursued the suspects, who ran into stop sticks at I-70 and I-270 but continued south on I-270 until the Tahoe overturned near Page Boulevard.

At the crash scene, officers heard a gunshot from inside the vehicle. After a brief standoff, three suspects were taken into custody, and police found that the driver had sustained a non life-threatening gunshot wound to the head. The 22-year-old driver was taken to the hospital.

The other two suspects, ages 14 and 15, are being detained at the St. Louis County Juvenile Justice Center.

Charges are pending.
