UPDATE: O’Fallon police have identified the victim as 68-year-old Sharon Crader.
The O’Fallon Police Department and the Missouri State Fire Marshall’s office are investigating a fire that left one resident dead and sent four people, including two police officers, to the hospital.
“Shortly after 1 a.m. this date, a passer-by called in flames coming from behind a home. Officers arrived and found the home heavily involved,” the police department said in a press release.
The fire was located in a home on County Life Drive, north of Interstate 70 and east of Main Street.
Two of the residents were rescued, but attempts to rescue a third were abandoned after two police officers sustained smoke-inhalation injuries. The deceased resident has not yet been identified.
O’Fallon police confirmed by mid-morning that both police officers have been treated and released from the hospital. One of the occupants has been released, but one remains hospitalized.
