O’Fallon Woman Escapes Injury in Five-Car Chain Reaction Crash on I-270

A 31-year-old woman from O’Fallon who was in a five-car chain reaction crash on Interstate 70 in West St. Louis County escaped without injury.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, an Audi being driven by a 22-year-old female from St. Louis was following too closely when four cars ahead of her slowed for traffic just after 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The Audi rear-ended a Chevy Cruze being driven by Jacquelyn S. Stearns of O’Fallon, which in turn struck the rear of a Honda Civic being driven by 34-year-old James R. Akers of St. Charles.

The Honda then struck the back of an Infinity being driven by a 62-year-old man from Clarksville, and the Infinity struck a Ford pickup being driven by Gary L. Douglas, 41, of St. Peters.

Douglas was the only person involved in the chain-reaction crash to report injuries. He was taken to Mercy Hospital for minor injuries.

All of the drivers involved were wearing seat belts.
