O’Fallon Police Department releases information about officer-involved shooting

A 64-year-old O’Fallon resident was shot by a police officer just before noon Friday, the O’Fallon Police Department reported in a press release.

An officer  responded to a residence in the 1000 block of Mission Hills Drive with a mental health professional for a mental health follow-up. The resident, who was identified by police as Dale Weich, produced a handgun, forcing the officer to shoot him, police said.

Weich was transported to local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. No one else was injured in the incident.

The investigation remains active, police said.
