O’Fallon Police Ask for Help Identifying SUV Driver Who May Have Run Over Accident Victim

UPDATE, June 30: The O’Fallon Police Department issued a press release identifying the victim, Jeffery Johns, 20, of O’Fallon. Johns remains hospitalized and is in critical but stable condition.

In the press release, the police said that the dark SUV shown in a photograph may have been a witness. This story has been corrected to reflect that.

The O’Fallon Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying the driver of a vehicle that may have run over the victim of a motorcycle accident.

The department received a call at 4:34 p.m. about a motor vehicle accident at Mexico and Mexico Loop Road East. A 20-year-old motorcycle was found at the scene, lying in the intersection. The victim had sustained severe injuries and was transported to the hospital.

Police said that witnesses at the scene stated that while the victim was lying in the street, he was struck by a vehicle that left the scene. According to the witnesses, the vehicle was a dark-colored SUV that had been driving east on Mexico before the accident.

Police provided a picture that was taken of a vehicle that may have witnessed the accident, and asked that anyone with information call Officer Shepard at (636) 240-3200, extension 1.
