To help residents dispose of unwanted household items, O’Fallon’s Environmental Services Department is sponsoring two events this month, the Electronics & Appliance Recycling Event and the Bulk Waste Drop-off.
Electronics & Appliance Recycling Event, August 11 – Drop off unwanted appliances and electronics for recycling in the west parking lot at CarShield Field from 8 a.m. to noon. The parking lot is located at the southwest corner of Tom Ginnever Ave. and T.R. Hughes Boulevard in O’Fallon. (The next drop-off event will be held on Saturday, October 6.)
This drop-off is available to all, including schools, churches and businesses as well as individuals. In general, items with an electric cord or which take a battery can be dropped off: household appliances, water heaters, furnaces, air conditioners, microwaves, computer monitors (including CRTs), printers, keyboards, laptops, hard drives, scanners, cell phones, pagers, fax machines, answering machines, radios, stereos, speakers, VCR and DVD players, DVDs, power tools, lawn and garden equipment (must have gas and oil removed), and LED/LCD TVs.
There is no cost for recycling except for the following items:
- LED/LCD/Plasma televisions – $20
- CRT monitors – $5
- CRT TVs 26” or less – $30
- CRT TVs 27” or larger – $50
- Wood console and true big screen/projection TVs – $50
- Any unit containing Freon (refrigerant) – $10
Please, do NOT bring smoke detectors, glass lamps, light bulbs, VHS tapes or alkaline batteries.
Bulk Waste Drop-off – Open and free to O’Fallon, Missouri, residents enrolled in the city’s trash collection service, items too large to fit into residents’ curbside trash containers can be brought to the O’Fallon waste transfer station from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 18. The waste transfer station is located at 1572 Progress West Lane 63366. Visit www.ofallon.mo.us/bulk-waste for directions. (The next drop-off event will be held on Saturday, October 13.)
To use the drop-off, customers need a current photo ID with their O’Fallon address and must unload their own items. Acceptable items include: furniture, carpets, swing sets, bikes, toddler pools, sports and exercise equipment, lawn mowers with oil and gas removed (but not riding mowers), large hand tools, barbecue grills, computer monitors, televisions and fluorescent bulbs. To request curbside pick-up of these items, call Environmental Services at 636-272-0477. (Weight and size limits may apply.) The fee will be added to the customer’s bi-monthly trash bill.
Unacceptable items include: appliances, automotive tires, parts and batteries, yard waste, railroad ties, and liquid household hazardous waste: paints and stains, gas, oil, solvents, pesticides, fungicides and herbicides.
