Douglas J. Fiedler, 53, of O’Fallon, was killed in a crash on Interstate 44 early Wednesday morning, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
Fiedler was driving a 200 Jeep Wrangler westbound on Interstate 44 at 2:40 a.m. Wednesday in Franklin Country. Fiedler’s Jeep traveled into the median and hit the cable barrier, then traveled across the emergency crossover into the eastbound lanes. There it was struck by a 2015 Kenworth tractor-trailer driven by Diane C. Phillips, 29, of Grant, MI.
The Jeep overturned on the right side of the road and the tractor-trailer overturned in the median.
Fiedler was pronounced dead at the scene. Phillips and a passenger sustained minor injuries and were transported to Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan.
The crash closed down Interstate 44 completely for almost two hours, KMOV reported. The eastbound lanes reopened by 10:30 a.m.
