James M. Haines, 28, of O’Fallon, was killed in a crash at 5:35 a.m. Wednesday in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 east of Highway K.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Haines was driving a 1980 Pontiac Firebird. The vehicle had a mechanical defect, and Haines changed lanes into the path of a 2006 Toyota Sienna driven by a 23-year-old Wentzville man.
The Toyota struck the Pontiac, and both vehicles caught fire. The Pontiac then hit the concrete median.
Haines was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS personnel.
