A 26-year-old woman from O’Fallon sustained moderate injuries when she swerved to avoid hitting a family of raccoons on Highway 79 early Saturday morning.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Kathryn M. Busen was driving a 2009 Toyota Scion on Highway 79 north of T.R. Hughes Boulevard about 12:40 a.m.
Busen swerved to avoid hitting the raccoons and the vehicle went off the left side of the roadway. She was wearing a safety belt, and sustained moderate injuries.
Busen was taken by ambulance to SSM St. Joseph Hospital – St. Charles. The Scion was totaled.
No information was available about the condition of the raccoons.
