The Fort Zumwalt Education Foundation is proud to announce the release of its first sponsored book, Faces of Fort Zumwalt.
This 200-page coffee table style book describes the making and growth of the Fort Zumwalt School District. The book details important facts, events and significant figures over the years that developed and shaped the image of the Fort Zumwalt School District.
Overall, there are more than 700 people named and/or shown in photographs throughout the book and listed in the book’s index.
Faces of Fort Zumwalt was written by Dr. Patty Corum, former principal and deputy superintendent in the district. Dr. Corum was instrumental in the effort that began the Grow Your Own Teachers Program in 2004 and she helped organize and create the Fort Zumwalt Education Foundation to fund the program in 2005. The proceeds from Dr. Corum’s book will be donated entirely to the Fort Zumwalt Education Foundation.
Currently, the Grow Your Own Teacher program includes 10 Fort Zumwalt graduates studying at Missouri universities to become teachers in high needs areas such as Special Education, Foreign Language, secondary Math and Science and Industrial Technology. Recipients receive financial support for college and promise to return to teach in Fort Zumwalt School District. Two will graduate this year, joining seven other program alum teaching in our schools. Two new graduates will begin college this fall.
Faces of Fort Zumwalt is currently available for $30 in any Fort Zumwalt school office and can also be ordered online.
Dr. Corum will be signing books at Jacob Zumwalt’s Fort in Fort Zumwalt Park on from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., May 6 during O’Fallon Founders Day. Watch for more information on signings at St. Charles City-County Library this summer.
