On the agenda for Thursday night’s O’Fallon City Council meeting is the approval of Mayor Bill Hennessy’s appointment of Dale King to the Ward 3 seat recently vacated by Rick Battelle.
Battelle resigned from the Council on April 20, during a special meeting to declare the April 4 election results and swear in the mayor and councilmen.
Once the new board was in place Battelle read his resignation letter, saying, “I need to devote myself more fully to the other parts of my life.” He said that the decision was not easy, and had not been taken lightly.
Mayor Hennessy nominated Winghaven Residential Owners Association president Dale Kling to take over Battelle’s Ward 3 seat. Kling is a retired U.S. Air Force Lieutenant Colonel, and he also worked for Boeing as the Director of Contracts. He has a graduate degree in Business Administration and Management.
The city’s charter calls for appointees to serve until the next municipal election. Because there is no election in 2018, Kling would serve until April 2019.
“It’s a unique situation that no one is up for election in 2018, and no other issues are on the ballot,” O’Fallon Communications Director Tom Drabelle told 70 West Sentinel, “Every five years, we have a year with no elections.”
