Local Churches Help Provide Food for Needy Summer School Students

Food Drive

Wentzville United Methodist Church extended Operation Backpack beyond the school year in order to feed Wentzville School District students in need who attended summer school.

During the school year, almost 400 students receive a bag on Fridays filled with nutritious, kid-friendly, easy-to-prepare foods to take home for the weekend. For many of these students, the best meal they receive during the week is the lunch they have in school.

Wentzville United Methodist Church sponsors the program at Heritage Elementary, Lakeview Elementary and Wentzville Middle School during the school year and for the third year in a row, continues the program for WSD kids attending summer school.

Thirty students across the District received food during summer school thanks to their generosity and the kindness of volunteers from 2 Rivers Church in O’Fallon who delivered the food to our summer school sites.

Another wonderful example of our caring community!
