Habitat for Humanity of St. Charles County will be building four new homes in 2017, including one earmarked for a U.S. veteran or service member.
Homes are built by volunteers and also with “sweat equity” labor provided partly by the family selected to live in the new home. The individual or family then purchases the home with a low, interest-free mortgage.
Interested persons should meeting the following qualifications:
- Need housing
- Be a resident of St. Charles County for the past year
- Be capable of making monthly mortgage payments
- Be willing to partner with Habitat St. Charles and earn sweat equity hours by helping to build their home
The Veteran Build is part of a national initiative to providing housing for Veterans and active members of the armed services (Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Reserve, Coast Guard or National Guard) or surviving spouses or partners.
Besides prospective homeowners, Habitat St. Charles is looking for volunteers to help build the homes, and individuals, businesses, or organizations to donate or to be a sponsor.
Applications will be accepted from February 1 to 15. Applicants must attend a Homeowner Information meeting on February 6. Applications are available online, and should be submitted to Habitat St. Charles at 186 Mid Rivers Center, St. Peters 63376.
