On the last day of candidate filing, a familiar face has stepped up to challenge Mayor Nick Guccione’s bid for re-election in Wentzville.
The second name that voters will see on the ballot on April 5 is Chris Gard. Gard served two terms as an alderman in Ward 2, in 2011 and 2013. He chose not to run for a third term in 2015.
Gard served alongside Guccione on the board in 2011, when Guccione was also an aldermen. (In 2012, Guccione won his bid for the mayor’s office, and he was the first mayor to hold that office for a four-year term.)
In his year away from city government, Gard has been instrumental in the formation of the Wentzville Main Street Association, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation dedicated to the revitalization of Wentzville’s historic downtown area.
