This Friday, June 3, is the first of Wentzville’s two popular summer car cruises on Pearce Boulevard.
For a $10 donation, car owner/enthusiasts can cruise Pearce Boulevard from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. to the cheers of an appreciative crowd who bring their lawn chairs, coolers, and cameras and enjoy the show.
Wentzville’s signature Rod Run events benefit the Missouri D.A.R.E. program. Last year’s events raised a total of $9,363.
This history of the Rod Runs goes back to the early 1980s, said Amanda Harris of event sponsor Harris Automotive and Tire. The Mid America Raceway (MAR) racetrack, which was formerly located northwest of Wentzville off of North Point Prairie Road, hosted a nostalgia drag weekend. Participants would drive into Wentzville on Friday nights to cruise, Harris said. The informal cruise continued until the late 90s, when it became an organized event. This year’s sponsors are Harris Automotive and Tire and the Wentzville Downtown Business Association.
The second Wentzville Rod Run will be on August 5. On Friday, July 8th, there will be a Rod Run in Wright City.
Residents should note that Pearce Boulevard will be closed between City Hall and Luetkenhaus Boulevard during the Rod Runs.
