After the first day of the filing period for the April 5, 2016 municipal election, two of O’Fallon’s five City Council wards have challengers to the incumbent council members–and one ward has two new candidates and an incumbent who has not yet filed.
The only candidate who filed in Ward 1 was incumbent Rick Lucas.
Filing for the Ward 2 position were Tom “Duke” Herweck and Earl Nuesse. Incumbent councilman Jim Pepper has not yet filed for re-election. When contacted by 70 West Sentinel for comment, Pepper said that he was “assessing the situation.”
Ward 3 incumbent Rick Battelle filed for re-election, with no challenger at this point.
In Ward 4, incumbent Jeff Schwentker filed, and he will be challenged in the election by first-day filer Greg Fisher.
In Ward 5, incumbent Debbie Cook filed, and she will be challenged by first-day filer David Maritz.
The filing period for candidates is open until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, January 19, 2016.
