A small fire in a patient room at SSM St. Joseph Hospital-Lake Saint Louis Saturday night prompted an evacuation, but no injuries were reported and the fire was quickly extinguished.
The fire, which was reported at about 9:15 p.m. Saturday, started in a patient room in the Intensive Care Unit, hospital spokesman Heather Allen told 70 West Sentinel.
“The fire was contained to one room and was extinguished quickly. No patients were harmed and out of an abundance of caution, we moved the remaining patients on that unit to other rooms within our facility,” Allen said.
Hospital staff investigated the cause, and determined that it was not a problem with any of the systems or any error by any employee.
“Crews worked hard to clean the spaces and were able to get patients back to their original rooms by morning,” Allen said. There was no damage to the building.
