Tuesday, December 13 is the first day of the filing period for next spring’s municipal elections. On April 4, 2017, Wentzville voters will be electing three aldermen and a municipal judge; Lake Saint Louis voters will be electing a mayor and three aldermen; and O’Fallon voters will elect a mayor and five members to its city council.
The Wentzville School District Board of Education will be electing three directors. The Fort Zumwalt School District Board of Education will be electing three directors with three-year terms and one director with a one-year term.
The filing period for candidates closes on Tuesday, January 17, 2017.
Specifics for O’Fallon, Wentzville, and Lake Saint Louis and the two school districts follow.
The first day of filing “Declarations of Candidacy” for the City of O’Fallon’s April 4, 2017 municipal election will open on Tuesday, December 13, 2016, at the O’Fallon Municipal Centre (City Hall), 100 North Main Street, O’Fallon, Missouri 63366.
Declarations of Candidacy will be accepted at the West City Hall entrance, only, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the first day of filing. After that date, filing will be held in the City Clerk’s office on the third floor of City Hall. Declarations of Candidacy will be accepted until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2017.
The April 4, 2017 election is being held to elect a mayor and one City Council representative for each of O’Fallon’s five wards to serve three year terms. Up for election this year are the seats currently held by Dave Hinman (Ward 1), Rose Mack (Ward 2), John Haman (Ward 3), Bob Howell (Ward 4), and Mike Pheney (Ward 5). The current mayor, Bill Hennessy, has served two four-year terms in office.
Each candidate must file in person, and a $25 fee must accompany each Declaration of Candidacy, which must include the candidate’s name, age, address, length of residency and the office for which the candidate is filing. Candidates will appear on the April 4, 2017 ballot in the order in which each filed.

Filing opens at 8 a.m. Tuesday, December 13 at Wentzville City Hall for candidates for the April 4, 2017 municipal election. Election packets are available on the city website.
Up for election this year is the position of Municipal Judge (currently held by Michael Carter) and the seats currently held by Cheryl Kross (Ward 1), Sonya Shryock (Ward 2), and Matt Swanson (Ward 3).
Qualifications for Wentzville Board of Aldermen:
- At least 18 years of age
- A citizen of the United States
- A resident of the city for one year preceding the election
- A resident of the ward where he/she plans to serve at the time of filing
There is a $25 filing fee for city office. All candidates must file in person and must provide proof of identity.
Lake Saint Louis
Candidate filing for the City of Lake Saint Louis opens at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 and closes at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2016. City Hall office hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. excluding holidays.
Lake Saint Louis will be electing a mayor to serve a four-year term and one alderman in each of the city’s three wards. Aldermen serve two-year terms. Up for election this year are the seats currently held by Gary Turner (Ward 1), Mike Potter (Ward 2), and John Pellerito (Ward 3). The office of mayor is currently held by Kathy Schweikert, who was chosen to fill the office after the death of mayor Ralph Sidebottom in 2014 and won a special election to in 2015 to complete the remainder of that term.
Qualifications for mayor:
- At least 25 years old
- Citizen of the United States
- A resident of the city at the time of and for at least one year preceding his/her election
Qualifications for aldermen:
- At least 18 years old
- Citizen of the United States
- An inhabitant and resident of the city of one year preceding his/her election
- A resident at the time he/she files and during the time he/she serves, of the ward from which he/she is elected
For candidates filing on the first day (December 13, 2016) and the last day (January 17, 2017), the order of filing will be determined by random drawing. From December 14, 2016 through January 16, 2017 candidates for each office will appear on the ballot in the order in which his/her written declaration of candidacy is filed with the City Clerk’s office.
Wentzville School District
The Wentzville School District Board of Education will have three open seats in the April 4, 2017 election. Each Board of Director position is a 3-year term.
Up for election are the seats currently held by Courtney Tieman, Barbara Fine, and Kurtis Daniels.
Filing opens at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, December 13, 2016, and closes Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 5 p.m. To be eligible, candidates must be a United States Citizen, at least 24 years of age, a Wentzville School District resident taxpayer, and have lived in and paid taxes in Missouri for at least one year. Qualified applicants must file in person during business hours at the Wentzville School District’s Central Office, One Campus Drive, Wentzville, MO.
Central Office is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays, but will be closed on December 23, 26, and 30, 2016 and January 2, and 16, 2017. In addition, there will not be filing on days when school is not in session due to inclement weather with the exception of the first and last day.
A lottery system for ballot order placement for first and last day filings will be utilized. The names of candidates filing on the first day will be listed in ascending order of the numbers drawn and ahead of the names of candidates filing on a later date. The names of candidates filing on the last day will be listed in descending order after the names of all candidates who have previously filed on an earlier date.

Fort Zumwalt School District
The Fort Zumwalt School District encourages qualified persons interested in running for a position on the School Board to file to be a candidate in the April 4, 2017 election.
There are three positions available with three-year terms and one position available with a one-year term. Candidate qualifications are listed on the district’s website: www.fz.k12.mo.us or you may pick up a copy at the district office.
Interested persons may file at the superintendent’s offices located at 555 E. Terra Lane, O’Fallon. Filing will begin on December 13, 2016, at 8 a.m. and will continue during the district’s regular business hours, which are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Except for the first and last day of filing, filing will not occur on days that the school district’s central offices are closed due to inclement weather. Filing will also not occur on the following days when the school district’s central offices are closed: December 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, and January 2 and 16.
Filing will end on January 17, 2017, at 5 p.m.
