Fatalities reported in two-vehicle crash on Highway 61

UPDATE: 26-year-old Miranda L. Jercick, 26, of Troy, and a male infant, Rylen A. Jercick, were fatally injured in a two-car crash on Highway 61 early Thursday morning.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Jercick’s 2004 Mitsubishi Gallant  was traveling northbound when it began to skid, left the roadway, overturned in the median, and struck a southbound Chevy Traverse driven by Donna J. Hay, 55, of Eureka.

Jercick, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene. The infant, who was restrained, was also pronounced dead.

Hay, who was wearing a seat belt, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to SSM St. Joseph – St. Charles.

A two-vehicle crash on Highway 61 has claimed two lives, several media outlets report.

The St. Charles County MO Scanner Traffic Facebook page reported the crash Thursday morning on southbound Highway 61. KMOV reported that the crash happened at about 6:40 a.m. near Highway P/Peine Road.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that a third victim was taken to the hospital. Southbound lanes of Highway 61 will be closed during accident investigation.
