Candidates are judged on the respect and admiration of students, parents and colleagues. Selection is also based on their ability to inspire and educate students of all backgrounds and abilities.

“I feel very honored to be recognized in a sea of amazing teachers and educators,” Swantner shared following the announcement. “I hope to continue to represent the Wentzville School District in a positive way.”

“Mrs. Swantner is an educational innovator,” said Duello Assistant Principal Dani Todd. “She is always pushing the norms to be creative and influential for her colleagues and our District. Andrea has touched students and teachers in ways that change us personally and professionally. She believes that her role does not begin or end in the classroom and she gives an extraordinary amount of her personal time to ensure that her students have exciting days at school, as well as the resources to help them succeed and develop into lifelong learners.”

As the winner of the District Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Swantner is now eligible to compete at the regional and state level in the Missouri Teacher of the Year program, which is conducted annually by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in conjunction with the National Teacher of the Year program.
