UPDATE: Val Joyner of the St. Charles County Police Department has confirmed that a suspect is in custody, but that the name will not be released until charges are filed. The Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report identified the driver of the pickup as Keith A. Wigger, 27, of Wentzville.

The St. Charles County Police Department issued a press release this morning to report that they will be seeking felony assault charges against a driver who crashed into two vehicles and sent five other people to the hospital Friday night after fleeing a police officer.

According to the police, Wigger, who was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado, crossed the centerline on Veterans Memorial Parkway at about 9 p.m., nearly hitting a St. Charles County police officer.

“The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, at which time the suspect vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed westbound on Bryan Road. The officer initiated a short pursuit, but was instructed to terminate the pursuit by a supervisor,” the press release stated.

Wigger was then involved in a crash with two other vehicles on Bryan Road near Osage Meadows Drive.
