Community Support Needed for School District’s Holiday Assistance Program

Holiday Assistance Program

Each year in December the Wentzville School District’s Holiday Assistance Program helps to provide gifts for needy students and their families. Last year over 425 families and more than 1,100 children received assistance in this charitable effort.

The program, coordinated by the WSD Community Relations Department and the school counselors, relies on community support to help make the upcoming holidays more enjoyable for struggling families. In WSD schools, students and staff do a variety of things to raise money and collect gifts, and many families are adopted by their own caring school community. But there is always a need for additional community assistance.

In addition to the District’s traditional Holiday Assistance Program, this year for the first time, the WSD is partnering with Morning Star Church and four WSD schools (Prairie View Elementary, Discovery Ridge Elementary, Frontier Middle and Liberty High) are piloting a partnership with Morning Star’s Christmas Shoppe. The Christmas Shoppe is an opportunity for WSD families in those schools to purchase gifts for their own children at deeply discounted prices. The gifts are donated and all proceeds go to the New Hope Resource Center which assists local families in need throughout the year.

Whether you choose to adopt a family through the District’s traditional Holiday Assistance Program or if you would like to donate items for the WSD/Morning Star Church Christmas Shoppe, community assistance is key to the program’s success.

If you, your family and friends, or your company would like to provide gifts for a family in need through the District’s traditional Holiday Program, families range in size from one child to six children and donors can request what size family they would like to adopt. Donors also have the option of contacting the family directly and arranging to drop gifts, or dropping the gifts at the WSD Central Office by Friday, December 11th.

If you would like to help out and share a little cheer by adopting a family or simply donating specific items needed for the Christmas Shoppe, please contact the WSD Community Relations Department at (636) 327-3800 ext. 20357 or email kathleendelaquil@wsdr4.org for more information. You can make a difference, and you can make the holidays brighter for WSD children in need.
