Charges Filed Against Suspect in O’Fallon Standoff

William Pennington was charged with assault, resisting arrest and assault on a police animal.

William Lee Pennington, 45, of Elsberry, was charged today by the St. Charles Prosecuting Attorney’s office with one count of felony assault on a law enforcement officer, one count of resisting a felony arrest, and one count of assault on a police animal.

An O’Fallon police canine was injured when it was sent into the house where Pennington was barricaded in the basement during an eight-hour standoff. Police had been called to the house on Cordes Street for a domestic assault in progress.

Bond was set at $50,000, cash only.

In press release earlier today, O’Fallon police reported that Pennington had an active warrant for felony sexual assault sodomy out of Johnson Country, MO.
