What was originally reported as a vehicle accident on Highway 61 north of Wentzville ended with the shooter taking his own life.
Police responded to the report of a two-vehicle accident on Highway 61. A pickup truck involved in the accident left the roadway and went into the tree line. First responders heard a gun shot and eventually discovered that the driver of the pickup had killed himself.
Initial information mistakenly reported that shots had been fired at first responders. The St. Charles Missouri Scanner Traffic Facebook page, which tracks scanner traffic and posts updates from St. Charles County emergency services, reported hearing on scanner feeds that the shot had been directed at a St. Charles County Ambulance District supervisor.
Wentzville Police Chief Michael Marlo confirmed to 70 West Sentinel this morning that only one shot was fired at the scene, the self-inflicted shot that took the life of the pickup truck driver.
70 West Sentinel will post more information as it becomes available.
