Accident shuts down I-70 near Wentzville Parkway Sunday afternoon

UPDATE: According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at 2:20 p.m., when a Ford pickup driven by a 72-year-old man from St. Peters slowed in the eastbound lanes because a vehicle ahead was stopped. A chain reaction crash followed, involving two drivers from Troy, MO, and drivers from Shiloh, IL, Glen Carbon, IL, and Alpharetta, GA.  

One driver, a 59-year-old female from Alpharetta, GA, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital. A 40-year-old driver fro Shiloh, IL, a 14-year-old passenger from Troy, and a 6-year-old passenger from Warrenton sustained minor injuries and were transported to SSM St. Joseph Hospital in Lake Saint Louis. 

UPDATE: 70 West Sentinel is receiving reports that as of about 4:30 p.m., traffic is moving but traffic on both the highway and the outer roads remains heavy.

A multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 70 has closed down the highway near the Wentzville Parkway exit, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation’s travel map.

The St. Charles County Missouri Scanner Traffic Facebook page first reported the multi-vehicle, multi-patient accident at about 3 p.m. Sunday.

Facebook commenters are reporting cars attempting to leave the highway and cross over onto the service roads, and that police in the area are stopping those vehicles.
